Timeline of Road Safety work
In 2023 Wellington Heath Parish Councillor Steve Loveridge setup and led a sub group of volunteers to consider road safety in the Parish, specifically to examine issues concerning the narrow village lanes.
The steady increase in traffic (which will continue to grow), large vehicles attempting to navigate impossible bends, and other vehicles travelling faster than considered safe have recently caused concern and frustration.
The Group had a wide brief but initially focused on gathering factual “evidence” on all aspects of road safety in the Parish, including by a parish-wide survey in 2024. The Group worked on offering practical solutions to concerns raised by parishioners. It involved liaising with Herefordshire County Council, and Balfour Beatty who were consulted for feasibility studies and funding.
The Group reported to the Parish Council and Parishioners regularly through meetings, Newsletter articles, the various Wellington Heath Noticeboards, and via the PC website and email network. The Parish were consulted, and all concerns were reviewed prior to decisions being taken. Minutes taken from their regular meetings are posted on this page, see links above. The group reported outcomes to the Parish Council in September 2024 and disbanded. Steve Loveridge had to step down from the parish council shortly afterwards due to work and family pressures.
Some progress was made on Road safety in early 2025, including HGV signs and a grant application for work in Staplow.
In July 2025 Cllr Tim Lott joined the parish council and undertook a thorough review of the road safety workstreams and progressed them as far as possible, including liaising with Herefordshire County Council, Balfour Beatty, Ledbury Town Council and Malvern Hills National Landscape . His March 2026 report (link above) details his progress. Tim has now stepped down from the parish council. Work on road safety measures is being taken forward by Cllr Steve Harries.
